I’m very pleased to announce some exciting news for all Scottish (and UK) based web designers and developers. The inaugural Highland Fling – Web Standards in Scotland conference is being held in Edinburgh on the 5th of April 2007, focusing on a theme of progressive enhancement.
The brain child of my good mate Alan White, this one day event is going to blow you away with it’s line-up of speakers and talks.
We’ve got:
- Jeremy Keith – What is progressive enhancement?
- Mark Norman Francis – Graded browser support
- Andy Budd – Progressive enhancement using advanced CSS
- Christian Heilmann – Progressive enhancement using JavaScript and AJAX
- James Edwards – What has AJAX done for us anyway?
- Drew McLellan – Microformats
- Andy Clarke – Beyond progressive enhancement
What a line up! There’s also some other exciting post conference events planned, so the fun doesn’t stop there.
Scotland really needs this right now. Standards based web design is still lagging behind in this country, but there are some great Scottish developers who are doing things right. Hopefully, this event will be a great chance to promote web standards more to Scottish developers, as well as a great networking event for everybody.
So, if you’re a web standards lovin’ Scottish developer then show your support and get along to the event. You won’t regret it.
I also just want to congratulate Alan on having the balls to set something like this up. Good job mate.
Check out the Highland Fling – Web Standards in Scotland Conference website for more details.

Sounds very interesting and i’m sure there’ll be many great things to learn.
I’ve checked the Highland Fling’s website but there is no mention of how much a ticket cost for the event? Any idea?
thanks,
