FreeAgent Central: Money management for UK freelancers

FreeAgent Central logoIf you’re like me, then you’re probably not as on top of your finances as you should be. As an employee it’s not such a big deal, but if you’re a freelancer or contractor then this can be a real issue, especially when tax time comes around and you find you’re not as prepared as you need to be.

The problem is that most of us want to be working on projects or growing our business, not worrying about the finances.

Well worry no more, because now there’s FreeAgent Central a new web application specifically designed for UK freelancers, contractors and consultants that aims to help you get a grip of your finances and money management.

I was approached late last year by founder Ed Molyneux to get involved with the FreeAgent Central project, already well under way at that stage. Designing a full-blown web app is something I’ve wanted to do for ages, so I jumped at the opportunity, and I’ve been helping out ever since with interface design, templating and usability.

FreeAgent Central is just about to start beta testing, and it’ll be a few months still the app is launched properly but you can check out our teaser website in the meantime. It’s also still in its early stages, but you can pop over there and read a bit more about the app, laugh at my half-assed Javascript, or sign up to the mailing list.

Check back here for more information as we get nearer to launch and I’ll be writing some articles on the unique challenges of designing a web app, compared with traditional websites.
