Well that’s me back now from an amazing trip. Still feeling pretty fried from the 3 days of traveling to get home, but I’m back in the saddle. Physically at least.
My journey took just over 3 weeks and spanned over 20000 miles from Edinburgh > London > Korea > Fiji > Tonga and back again.
Some trip highlights for me were:
- London: Having lunch at the Wolseley the day we left, and sitting next to Michael Winner fighting the urge to shout out “Calm down Dear, it’s only a commercial” (UK joke!)
- Tonga: Trying kite boarding for the first time, getting a bit carried away and being blown half way to Samoa before having to be rescued.
- Tonga: Finally getting the chance to swim with the whales. It truly is an unforgettable and humbling experience floating 10 feet above a 40 foot humpback whale with it’s baby. The grace, power of these things has to be seen to be believed.
- Tonga: Racing round Vava’u at break neck speed on a brilliant Kart Safari. A great way to see the islands and raise it up in the process.
- Tonga: Meeting Yves Rousset-Rouard, the producer of Emmanuellewho just sailed up to the island one day and came ashore! Was amazed that I was the only person who’d even heard of Emmanuelle! What’s wrong with the education system these days?
- Korea: Getting culture shock big time, going from a tiny tropical island to the heaving metropolis of Seoul. Having my first experience with a Korean gadget packed toilet, and getting squirted in the face (with water!) trying to figure out how it worked (and what it was supposed to even do!).
There was a lot more, but I’m still too busy trying to catch up with my work backlog at the minute. Apologies if I haven’t replied to any mail that anybody has sent, but I’m getting on it.
