This book has got me so excited I’m actually having to sit on a pile of newspaper in case I pee myself as I write this post.
NeuBau Welt, created by Stefan Gandl, represents a snapshot of over 1000 objects from everyday life in vector illustration. It’s really just a massive encyclopedia of vector cars, animals, objects and people compiled in a sexy bright orange hardback book.
Now, that’s good for sure, but it’s not pant wettingly good. That comes when you flick to the very last page of the book, and discover the CD that accompanies it, which contains editable and highly detailed Macromedia Freehand and Adobe Illustrator vector files of every object in the book. For the price of the book, designers actually get license to use these illustrations in ANY personal or commercial work.
The objects themselves are incredibly well drawn, with the trees and plants especially standing out, but it’s the sheer size and scope of the objects here that make this book my new best friend.
I don’t know how much of my design career I’ve spent, tracing cars, houses or people for use in a design. It’s a lot. With Neubau Welt, you’ve got an instantly library of highly detailed objects at your disposable…. oh dammit, there goes the newspaper.
If you are in the design industry and you work with vectors a lot, then stop whatever you are doing and go and get this now.
Why are you still here? Shoo!
