Tooting my own trumpet here, but what the hell, it’s not that often you find yourself in print. For good reasons anyway :)
I was contacted a few months ago by Jason Beird, who told me he was putting together a new book aimed at developers who wanted to improve their design skills, and planned to feature Renegade Zen as part of the book. I was stoked!
Well, it’s a few months later and Principles of Beautiful Web Design has just been published through SitePoint, and it’s been getting some good reviews. So good in fact, that the first run has sold out already and I can’t even get my hands on a copy. In the meantime however, you can download a sample chapter from SitePoint.
Initially I wanted a copy of the book purely for vanity reasons, but looking through the first sample chapter, there seems to be some really good material in there.
Split into 5 chapters Layout, Colour, Textures, Typography and Imagery. Renegade Zen gets a pretty good mention at the end of the Layout and Composition chapter, where Jason talks about the different layouts I’ve used on this site and the jump from 3 column to 2 column layouts to suit content.
I’ll definitely be getting a copy, even if it’s just to conveniently leave open on the coffee table when guests are round :)

Looks like a good read, although having an eleven month old bairn has left me with a predilection for such titles as Louie’s Little Zoo and That’s Not My Dinosaur. Saying that if it has lots of pretty pictures and the words are big (and there aren’t too many of them) I might just get the gist of it.
Congrats on the reference. Shame they are too mean to spot you with a free copy though :(
